Global Village

Through the GV Program, HFH builds thousands of homes each year in different countries especially in Africa, India and Latin America.

Habitat for Humanity’s Global Village (GV) program is derived from the credence that the World is increasingly growing into a Global Village.  Habitat for Humanity (HFH) today has a presence in over 90 countries of the world. Habitat for Humanity encourages volunteers to go and work in Habitat sister programs in other parts of the world. The trips offer volunteer teams the opportunity to offer hands-on assistance in home construction and appreciate the Challenge of poverty housing confronted by HFH worldwide.

The volunteers, known as GV Work Campers or GV Teams take short-term house-building trips (two weeks or less) in the country they visit. Individual team members or the entire team as a group fundraise for their upkeep (feeding, accommodation, medical treatment, rest and recreation activities e.t.c) while in the country where they decide to visit. The funds raised also go to fund home construction in that country. Through the GV Program, HFH builds thousands of homes each year in different countries especially in Africa, India and Latin America.

HFH Uganda GV Program
Habitat for Humanity Uganda (HFHU) receives over six GV teams each year.  Most of the teams come from the U.S.A, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Canada and Great Britain. HFHU works with Habitat for Humanity programs in these countries (through their GV coordinators) to arrange the trips. The initial contact for each of the teams (or aspiring team leaders) is the HFH program in their country which then contacts HFH Uganda. The Onus is then upon the team leader to recruit members for their team.

In Uganda, the teams work in the different affiliates spread throughout the country (refer to where we work).

Apart from house construction, teams take half day “cultural experience” type trips within the affiliate.  They visit local markets, schools, hospitals, clinics and church e.t.c.

After home construction at the HFH Uganda affiliates, team members engage in some Rest & Recreation (R&R) activities. R&R activities for the team while in Uganda include; White water rafting on the river Nile, Bungee Jumping, a visit to one of Uganda’s national game parks (www.safari-uganda.com, www.game-reserve.com) a visit to Ngamba Island (www.ngambaisland.org) located in Lake Victoria, one of Africa’s largest inland lakes e.t.c.
